Curiosity begins driving exploration
Your baby may seek out new experiences
Around week thirty-seven, curiosity is becoming a real driver. Your baby may now actively look for new things to see, touch and try, rather than waiting for them to appear.
What is happening
As movement and awareness grow, your baby's world feels much bigger. Wanting to explore is a sign that they feel safe enough to be curious. The more secure they feel with you nearby, the further they tend to wander with their eyes and hands.
Is this normal
Yes. Some babies are bold explorers, others prefer to investigate from your lap. Both styles are normal. Curiosity at this age does not always look like big movement, sometimes it looks like long careful looks.
What you may notice
- Reaching for objects in new places
- Crawling or scooting toward something interesting
- Studying everyday items like remotes and phones
- Looking back to check on you while exploring
What helps right now
- Making the floor a safe place to explore
- Letting them lead during play
- Following the look-back with a smile
- Saying yes to small explorations whenever it is safe
What to expect next
Over the coming weeks, exploration often becomes braver. Your baby may travel further from you, return for a quick check, and then set off again. This back-and-forth is healthy attachment in action.
