Your baby is learning how to get your attention
Intentional signalling becomes part of everyday interaction
Around week fifty-one, your baby is becoming clever at getting your attention. A specific noise, a tug on your clothes or a careful look across the room can all be ways of saying notice me.
What is happening
Your baby has worked out that you respond to certain signals. They are now choosing which signals to use and when. This is intentional communication, and it is a big step in social understanding.
Is this normal
Yes. Some babies are very clear and persistent, others are quieter and more subtle. Both are normal. The wish to be noticed is healthy, not demanding.
What you may notice
- Making the same sound repeatedly to get a reaction
- Tugging at clothes during busy moments
- Crawling over for a quick check-in
- Calling out from another room
What helps right now
- Acknowledging their attempt even when you cannot stop
- Telling them when you will be ready
- Giving short, warm responses often
- Setting up quiet moments together during the day
What to expect next
Over the coming weeks, attention-seeking will keep developing into real conversation. The same signals will gradually be joined by words, but the wish to connect is already fully there.
